New Apex Legends Evo Shields Get Stronger the More Damage you Inflict

As of today, Respawn has announced the upcoming System Override Collection Event, which will be coming to Apex Legends on the 3rd of March. During that event, which will feature 24 new cosmetics and Deja Loot, a new limited-time game mode, players will be able to try an all-new type of item; the Apex Legends Evo Shields.

The Upcoming Apex Legends Evo Shields

Apex Legends Evo Shields are an interesting new type of shield which differ considerably to those which are currently available. On the 3rd of March, Evo Shields will become available for players to find in the Deja Loot game mode. (Initially, they will only be available in Deja Loot, not in standard matches.) However, this appears to be something of a testing phase ahead of their permanent inclusion.

Apex Legends Evo Shield Added in System Override

When you first pick up a new Evo Shield, the item is actually weaker than the current weakest shield. However, Evo Shields possess a special feature; the more damage you inflict upon enemy players, the stronger your shield becomes as it progresses through four shield levels. Keep dealing damage, and eventually your shield can become even stronger than the strongest shield which is currently available in Apex Legends. Of course, getting an Evo Shield to that level requires you to put yourself at a lot of risk; after all, you’re going to have to fight and win against numerous other players to fully upgrade it.

Interestingly, Evo Shields don’t reset, even if dropped. That means that if you eliminate an opponent who had an Evo Shield, you can pick it up and it will retain the level of shielding which the previous owner had advanced it to. Evo Shields could have a very interesting impact on gameplay in Apex Legends as players get to grips with them. Although the reward of fully-strengthening one is great, the risk required to do so is high. Similarly, players with an Evo Shield who find a stronger normal shield will have to weigh up the values of the two; do you take the stronger shield, or stick with the weaker one which has the potential to improve?

Respawn has already hinted that Evo Shields will be coming to Apex Legends on a permanent basis after the System Override Event. “After the event we’ll consider adding the Evo Shield to all matches,” writes the studio; “so please give us your feedback.”
