Apex Legends Ranked Series 3 Brings New Changes and a New Rank

With the arrival of Apex Legends Season 4 on the 4th of February, players won’t just be getting new content (in the form of Forge, a new Legend, and the Sentinel sniper rifle). The Season will also coincide with the launch of Apex Legends Ranked Series 3, the third season of Ranked Play in the game. Series 3 will be bringing some substantial changes to the way that Ranked works in Apex Legends, including the addition of a new rank.

What’s Changing in Apex Legends Ranked Series 3

The first thing to note about Apex Legends Ranked Series 3 is the addition of the new ‘Master’ rank. In many ways, Master will be taking the place of Apex Predator. Indeed, it will now sit in-between Diamond and Apex Predator in the rank tiers. Players will need 10,000 RP to reach Master tier; the same requirement as has previously been needed to reach Apex Predator. Meanwhile, only the top-scoring 500 players in the game will now get the Apex Predator rank. In fact, this means that players can lose their Apex Predator rank if other players score higher than them and displace them out of the top 500.

Additionally, Series 3 will introduce splits. The first split will take place from the 3rd of February to the 23rd of March. It will feature the Worlds Edge map. On the 24th, there will be a soft reset, which will lower everybody’s rank positions by 1.5 tiers. For instance, a rank of Gold II would go down to Silver IV. (Indeed, this will be the same as the soft reset which will occur at the start of Series 3.) The second split will then take place on the Kings Canyon map until it ends on the 5th of May.

Other changes in Series 3 include new party restrictions and penalties. Firstly, once players reach Platinum rank, they will only be able to form parties with players who are, at most, 1 tier different. Hopefully, this will help to keep players in ranked matches at similar skill levels. In the second instance, Respawn will be changing the way that loss forgiveness works. In Series 3, if you exceed the 1/day limit on RP loss forgiveness more than three times, you will no longer receive RP loss forgiveness. This penalty will apply for the entire rest of the series.
