Apex Legends ‘The Old Ways’ Event Comes to an End Today

The Old Ways, the first ‘Lore Event’ which Respawn has ever run in Apex Legends, comes to an end today. However, while a range of event cosmetics and rewards will no longer be available, much of the content added with The Old Ways will actually remain in the game permanently. As a result, The Old Ways could prove to be one of the most impactful events in the game’s history.

The Old Ways’ Impact on Apex Legends Going Forward

Until now, Apex Legends events have generally fallen into one of several different formats, with the most common being the ‘Collection Events’. Following a format which has been refined over several iterations, Collection Events typically feature a town takeover and a range of new event cosmetics which players can unlock through Event Packs.

The Old Ways, however, was structured around a new format known as a ‘Lore Event’; the second new format trialled by Respawn after the Arcade Event earlier this year. Like past Collection Events, The Old Ways included a new town takeover and cosmetics. However, it didn’t feature the full range of cosmetics offered in Collection Events. Instead, it had a smaller pool of new cosmetics, available solely through the in-game store & an event-exclusive prize track; something which Respawn first began using with the Grand Soirée event.

However, many of the changes introduced by the Apex Legends The Old Ways event aren’t things which will depart after today. King’s Canyon has returned for good thanks to a permanent new map rotation system; a major shift in how Respawn makes maps available in Apex Legends. Furthermore, the new town takeover will also be a permanent addition to the World’s Edge map. As a result, players will only really lose access to the prize track and a few cosmetic store offers when The Old Ways ends. Depending on how The Old Ways performed, it’s possible that Respawn could utilise this format again in the future. (Particularly if they wish to release more frequent Stories From the Outlands cinematics.) For now, players will have to wait and see.
