Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Players Will Be Able to Hide Map Icons

While the Assassin’s Creed series is known for its detailed open worlds which recreate iconic periods of history, it’s also known for stuffing those same worlds with so many activities, missions, and side-quests that the corresponding maps quickly turn into a clutter-filled mess (fire up Assassin’s Creed: Unity and give its map a gander if you don’t believe us). Thankfully, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will have an optional mode which does away with all the map markers, allowing players to discover objectives and missions more organically.

According to an IGN report that was picked up by the AccessTheAnimus fan community, Odyssey players will have to choose between two distinct modes when they start a new save file. Guided mode will function in a more traditional manner with map markers and waypoints leading players to their next objective. If a player picks Exploration mode though, they’ll have to go out and find assassination targets and quest objectives by, well, exploring.

Interestingly enough, the in-game tooltip description for Exploration mode reveals that it’s actually the way in which Odyssey is meant to be experienced even though Guided mode hedges closer to what existing Assassin’s Creed players are already used to. It’s not clear yet whether players will be able to freely switch between the two modes once they’ve started their game (our guess is they will) but no matter what it sounds like Exploration mode will be a welcome addition for players who want to be fully immersed and/or avoid the anxiety of seeing a map littered with incomplete activity markers.
