The Battlefield 2042 Open Beta Begins in Early Access on Wednesday

This week, players on all three major platforms can look forward to playing Battlefield 2042 for the first time, with the start of the game’s Open Beta. However, some gamers will be able to play in the event for twice as long, thanks to the Early Access period, due to begin this Wednesday on the 6th of October.

The Battlefield 2042 Beta Early Access

The Battlefield 2042 Open Beta is a two-day event which will be starting on the 7th of October. However, two groups of gamers will be able to play for an extra two days, with Early Access. To get Early Access to the Beta, players must either have pre-ordered the game or have an active EA Play subscription. Whether players have Early Access or not, the Beta will be available to pre-load from the 5th of October. Click here for the Beta start times and pre-load times.

Battlefield 2042 Open Beta Later This Week 2

The Battlefield 2042 will offer a relatively small amount of content compared to, for example, the recent Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta. However, with a shorter duration overall, players should still have plenty to keep them occupied from start to finish. The Beta will only feature a single game mode and a single map; namely, the Conquest mode on the game’s new Orbital map.

Four of the game’s ten Specialists will be playable in the event. Specialists are a type of playable characters new to the Battlefield franchise, similar in design to Call of Duty’s Operators. (In that they are unique named playable characters.) However, unlike Operators, these Specialists do have unique in-game abilities with similarities to Battlefield’s classic class system. Maria Falck, for instance, has a “Syrette Pistol” which can heal friendly players. Reinforcing her Medic-style role, she can also revive downed allies to full health. Falck will be one of the four playable Specialists in the Beta, alongside Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, Webster Mackay, and Wikus “Casper” van Daele.
