Battlefield 2042 Release Date Officially Delayed to November

Shortly after its initial reveal, the release date for Battlefield 2042 was announced as being the 22nd of October, 2021. Now, however, EA & DICE have announced that the launch of Battlefield 2042 is being delayed by just under one month, from the 22nd to the 19th of November. The official statement cites difficulties caused by the ongoing COVID pandemic as the reason behind the delay.

Battlefield 2042 Has Been Delayed to November

“We’ve made the decision to shift the launch of Battlefield 2042,” reads the official statement, released on social media earlier today and signed by Oskar Gabrielson and the Battlefield 2042 development team; “The game will now be released worldwide on November 19th, 2021.”

Battlefield 2042 Delayed to November 2021

Compared to other recent releases, this delay for Battlefield 2042 is relatively short. Players won’t need to wait even one full extra month in this case. According to the official statement, COVID is the primary reason for the delay, but it does go into detail; “Given the scale and scope of the game,” it reads; “we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.”

Players should also bear in mind that DICE & EA are likely to err on the side of caution here. When Battlefield 5 launched, the game was so ridden with bugs that it caused lasting damage to its reputation; even after many of those bugs had been fixed, the damage had been done for plenty of players, who had already moved on to other things. Given that history, it makes sense that they would be much more cautious this time. Hopefully, this delay means that the launch of Battlefield 2042 won’t be a repeat of the last release.
