Battlefield 5 Will Launch With 30hz on Console and 60hz on PC

According to DICE’s Multiplayer Producer, David Sirland, Battlefield 5 will be launching with a minimum 60hz tick rate on PC. This is notable particularly because it puts the game a step ahead of the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The two franchises have often competed in areas like this, and die-hard first-person shooter fans will likely appreciate this confirmation.

The Battlefield 5 Launch Tick Rates on Consoles and PC

Sirland was recently asked by a fan what the tick rates would be in Battlefield 5. Sirland responded that; “We will start out with the same settings [as] Battlefield 1. 30hz on console, 60hz on PC. But that’s a start, and we’ll invest in improving that too.”

Not only that, but the game supports much higher tick rates as well for the smaller engagements, as Sirland confirmed in a follow-up Tweet.

Battlefield’s long-time rival, Call of Duty, was recently the subject of criticism in this very area. Following the game’s beta, it emerged that the tick rate had gone down. One analysis even claims that the tick rate was cut from 60hz all the way down to 20hz. Although Treyarch has recently addressed this issue to some extent, it doesn’t appear to have been completely fixed, and many fans are still understandably upset.

Battlefield 5 Launch Will Feature a Guaranteed 60hz Tick Rate on PC

As a result, the confirmation from DICE that Battlefield 5 will feature a guaranteed minimum tick rate of 60hz on PC will no doubt reassure many. Indeed, it seems that this is an issue which the studio considers quite important; note Sirland’s words “we’ll invest in improving that too,” suggesting that the Battlefield 5 tick rate could actually see improvements above the guaranteed minimums post-launch. For now, fans will have to wait and see, as there won’t be another opportunity to play Battlefield 5 until the game’s launch. Players who want to play the game early, however, do have several options through which they can do so.
