Battlefield V and More Games in the Series Return to Steam… on Sale
After a protracted absence from the platform and exclusivity to EA’s Origin platform, Battlefield V and a range of other games from the franchise have returned to Steam. As of today, five Battlefield games are now available on Steam, and all are currently on sale with discounts of between -50 to -75% off.
The Battlefield Steam Launch and Sale
The return to Steam for the Battlefield franchise includes Battlefield V, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, Battlefield Hardline, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Each game is available to buy in a single format, featuring the Premium versions and post-launch content. In the case of Battlefield V, this means the Year 2 Edition of the game. The Battlefield franchise’s return to Steam is accompanied by a franchise-wide sale. Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield Hardline are all currently -75% off. Meanwhile, the more recent titles; Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield V are -50% off. At present, it’s unknown what this return to the platform means for the future of the Battlefield franchise. It’s likely that, since Battlefield V has now been available for over a year, there is no longer a significant advantage to remaining Origin-exclusive. Given that a new Battlefield game isn’t expected until 2021, opening the franchise to Steam could also help to boost franchise profits for a while longer.
However, fans of the series probably shouldn’t assume that this return means that the next Battlefield will launch on Steam. It’s a possibility, but an unlikely one. More likely, the next game will launch exclusively on Origin as per usual and come to Steam at some point post-launch. As for Battlefield V, the game’s ongoing post-launch development will come to an end after its summer update. That update will be releasing later this month.
