The Next Battlefield 5 New Content Update Will be its Last

Since launch, Battlefield 5 has had six major Tides of War chapters; each one a sizable post-launch content update featuring new maps, new weapons, and various other features. The last two, Chapters 5 & 6, were the first to launch in “Battlefield 5 Year 2“. However, DICE has now announced that the next Battlefield 5 update will be the game’s final one.

Battlefield 5 New Content Updates Are Coming to an End

Writing in a recent blog post, DICE Senior Producer Ryan MacArthur explains that; “As we look to the future, we will release one more standalone update this summer that brings with it some new content, weapons, and game tweaks. We are targeting June for this update. We’re still tackling the challenges from working from home and will let you know how things progress for us over the next month.”

Battlefield 5 Update Will be the Last One 2

After the final update in June, which will presumably be Chapter 7 of Tides of War, there will be no more new content updates for Battlefield 5. New content updates are also ceasing for Star Wars: Battlefront 2. This is presumably so that DICE can focus more on development for upcoming projects. In the same blog post, for instance, it was confirmed that the next Battlefield game is planned for release in mid-to-late 2021. This does mean, however, that Battlefield fans will be in for a lengthy wait. It could easily be over a year between the final Battlefield 5 update and the next game’s launch.

Although Battlefield 5 won’t be getting any new content after the summer update, DICE won’t be ending all support. The studio will continue to work on Community Games Updates, for example, as well as their ongoing anti-cheat efforts. Additionally, they are reportedly; “planning various weekly initiatives such as the reintroduction of #FridayNightBattlefield servers, where the community can play Battlefield V in a friendly atmosphere”. Finally, DICE plan to start giving out Battlefield Currency or Company Coin as weekly rewards. This is so that players can unlock past gear they missed out on, suggesting that old Tides of War gear may return too.
