Behind the Scenes Gameplay Video Released for Cyberpunk 2077

In recent days, PlayStation has been releasing a series of interview and behind-the-scenes videos with CD Projekt Red; looking at different aspects of the studio’s history. Their latest video looks directly at Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s highly-anticipated and upcoming RPG. Narrated by Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series, the video gives a look at Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay and snippets of interviews with the developers.

“Creating Cyberpunk 2077” New Behind the Scenes Video

The new behind-the-scenes video looks at the history of Cyberpunk 2077 from its original announcement in 2012. “After the teaser, we kind of went dormant,” explains Marcin Momot, Community Lead for Cyberpunk 2077; “there was silence for four-to-five years, which for me and my community team was very hard because, you know, people were very excited about the game.

Level designer Miles Tost goes on to explain why the studio has had to keep so much under wraps in the long years of development; “The reason why you can’t really go out and just show everything is because video game development is such an iterative process, right. What we have now might not be there tomorrow. So, we’ve had ideas that have died over the years, then they have been resurrected, then they died again, and now they’re back.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Behind the Scenes Video 2

According to the video, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t just take place fifty years ahead of the original pen-and-paper RPG. In fact, it takes place in an alternate timeline. As a result, the studio has the freedom to tweak the setting as needed to develop their own world. The video then goes on to look at the shift to first-person, and to a customisable protagonist, from The Witcher series. As Doug Cockle states; “The move to first-person is essential to convey the scale and verticality of Night City, the game’s sprawling neon-soaked hub.”

Cyberpunk 2077 still has no formal release date. However, the studio recently confirmed their upcoming appearance at E3 2018. This latest video, and the encompassing series being released by PlayStation, appear to be CD Projekt Red’s first major promotional campaign of 2019; getting the hype started anew as they approach what is likely to be a very important event.
