Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 Trailer Revealed

CD Projekt Red has given fans a short behind-the-scenes look at how the studio created their Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer. Although the new video doesn’t go into detail, it does show off the development processes in action; transitioning from motion-capture recording to CGI development to the completed scenes. Certainly, the video highlights just how much went into crafting one of the most high-profile trailers of this year’s event.

How CD Projekt Red Made the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 Trailer

Designed like a trailer itself in many ways, the new behind-the-scenes video doesn’t feature any explanatory voiceovers. Instead, it shows snippets of the CD Projekt Red teams at work, and work-in-progress examples of motion-capture, art design, and graphical rendering. The video was put together in a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Goodbye Kansas, a visual-effects studio that also worked on the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer. Among other projects, Goodbye Kansas has previously worked on The Walking Dead, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the latest Hellboy movie.

The Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer was one of the most highly-anticipated, and subsequently most-talked-about, moments of the event. After all, it was presented on stage by Keanu Reeves, whom the trailer revealed would be playing Johnny Silverhand in the game. That moment alone of Keanu walking out on stage might well be remembered as the biggest moment of E3 2019. More recently, CD Projekt Red finally gave fans another brief look at gameplay; a cut-down version of a gameplay demo shown at E3 and Gamescom. This new 15-minute video wasn’t as lengthy as the 2018 gameplay reveal. However, it did still show off a variety of new characters, areas, and mechanics.

The game itself is due to release in April 2020, so it’s still many months away. Of course, September-to-November is often the busiest release window of the year for new games. As a result, it’s likely that CD Projekt Red won’t reveal much more major information for a while. However, fans should certainly expect to see plenty more of the game in the new year, as the release date draws closer.
