Beloved Japanese Game Clannad Releases on PS4 Later This Month

The beloved Japanese visual novel Clannad will be making its way to PS4 later this month, developer Prototype announced on Twitter earlier today. As of right now, this announcement is unfortunately just for North America; sorry, Europe. A specific release date has yet to be given outside of a “late June” window. Apparently, the European version is still being prepared so no announcements about its release have been revealed.

The June release date for Clannad PS4 is pretty impressive considering that it releases in Japan next week on June 14th. Typically, visual novels take a while to be localized for the West but it does help that it has already been released on Steam in English. It is worth noting that this release is only digital and not physical like Japan, nor will it be releasing on Vita here.

Clannad PS4

Clannad PS4 will feature both English and Japanese text for players to switch between. If you don’t know what the famous visual novel is all about, it features a boy named Tomoya Okazaki who has become bored with school and the town he lives in. His whole world changes, though, when he meets a classmate named Nagisa Furukawa. Together with several other prominent characters, the cast learns about life.

Clannad PS4 is best known as the visual novel basis for the anime adaptation that has made the game so well-known. The legendary animated version is widely regarded as the greatest anime ever created and console players in the West will now have the opportunity to play the game that started it all. With multiple routes and endings that the anime wasn’t able to adapt, there are dozens upon dozens of hours of story for players to enjoy.
