New Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day Event is Now Live

The Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day event, Gearbox’s take on a Valentine’s Day seasonal event, is now live in-game alongside today’s big game update. Although the event will only be live for one week, ending on the 20th of February, it offers players the chance to earn new event cosmetics and Legendary weapons by breaking hearts throughout the game.

The Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day Event

To get started with the Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day event, you’ll need to speak with Maurice aboard Sanctuary III. If you played in the Bloody Harvest event last year, you should already be familiar with this reptilian quest-giver. Note that if you want to opt-out of the event, you can actually do so now via the main menu; this feature was added as part of today’s patch and will be available for all future game events.

During the Broken Hearts Day event, you’ll find enemies throughout the game who have literal hearts floating around them. Killing the enemy will “break” the heart, triggering one of several possible effects. The heart might break with a fiery explosion, or it might turn nearby enemies into allies for a short time, among other things. Maurice will keep track of all the hearts you break in Borderlands 3, and once you reach certain amounts, he’ll send rewards to your mailbox.

Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day Event Now Live

The first reward, which you earn for 10 broken hearts, is the “ECHOcardiogram” Echo Skin. You’ll then get the “Cosmic Romance” Weapon Trinket at 25. After that, you’ll need to break 50, 75, and 100 hearts respectively to get the top rewards. In order, these are the “Terminal Polyaimorous” Legendary Maliwan SMG, “Heartbreaker” Vault Hunter Skin, and finally the “Wedding Invitation” Legendary Jakobs Sniper Rifle. Of course, these rewards will no longer be available once the event ends at 8:59 AM PT on the 20th of February. As such, if you want to get your hands on them, you’ll need to play Borderlands 3 in the next week.
