Bowsette Was Almost Made Official in Super Mario Odyssey

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it seems that Bowsette was almost made official by Nintendo itself in Super Mario Odyssey before being canceled entirely. This was revealed in the official art book for Super Mario Odyssey that released today in Japan. In one section of the book, we are treated to an alternate scene in which Bowser himself uses his own version of Mario’s Cappy to take over Princess Peach’s body.

Of course, that isn’t spoilers at all for anyone who hasn’t finished Super Mario Odyssey as nothing even remotely close to that happens in the final game. The art book shows what Nintendo’s “official” version of Bowsette would have looked like, which is remarkably different (but still awesome) from the fan version that has swept the internet lately.

To see exactly what Nintendo’s Bowsette would have looked like, check out the above picture by Twitter user Sakusuru; who also happens to be the source for this intriguing information. Bowser would have had red hair instead of blonde and looked slightly more sinister than its fan created counterpart. There is another interesting tidbit you can take away from this and that’s Bowser’s own body-controlling hat.

Apparently, it seems that Bowser would have had the same ability as Mario in Super Mario Odyssey, able to take over someone’s body. While Bowser did have Cappy’s little sister Tiara captive in the game, he didn’t actually ever use her to take over anyone’s body.

Oddly enough, this Bowser Cappy looks nothing like Tiara, instead, looking like Luigi’s hat and sporting a “K” on it. Perhaps the K stood for King Koopa but we might never know for sure given that this particular scene was canceled before the final game was released. Though that is unfortunate for fans of Bowsette, fret not, as there is more than enough fan art invading the internet to last you until Nintendo does make this official.
