With the next addition to the Call of Duty franchise being available through Blizzard’s pristine Battle.net platform, we have one question to make. Will there be Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Mods? Treyarch has plans for mod support on the upcoming title but can’t comment on it just yet.
During an interview with GamerHub TV, Treyarch co-studio head Dan Bunting revealed that the studio is indeed looking into the possibility of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Mods. However, it might be some time before they make an announcement. He stated:
“At this point in time, we’re not quite ready to talk about what the plans are for modding. Of course, people who have been with Treyarch for a long time know that we are big fans of the modding community. Many of our developers, we hire directly from the mod community, because they built a mod that got noticed. With Black Ops 3, we released mod tools for the first time in the franchise for many, many years. We’re big believers and supporters of the mod community, but we’re not quite ready to start talking about that yet.”
Modding support was an extremely important factor in the success of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Treyarch will try to bring that aspect of the game in its fourth installment too but it will be interesting to see how they’ll manage to implement it using Battle.net, since the game is not a port.
We already know that Treyarch is putting more of a focus on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC than before, placing a larger team on the development of the PC version to make sure it’s perfect for the platform. We’ll have to be patient to find out more information about the game and its potential modding support on PC.
