Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Campaign Teaser Released

Ahead of tomorrow’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha event, which will be giving PS4 players their first chance to actually play the upcoming game, Activision has released a teaser for the Black Ops Cold War campaign. The teaser features just under four minutes of gameplay from the ‘Nowhere Left to Run’ story mission.

The Black Ops Cold War Campaign – Nowhere Left to Run

Aside from the initial trailer, Activision has generally focused on showing off Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer, rather than its narrative campaign. With an Open Beta – and now an Alpha event – offering early access to that multiplayer, that approach makes sense. Plus, while the quality of the Call of Duty story campaigns did improve considerably with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it’s still unmistakably a fact that the vast majority of the franchise’s audience are primarily interested in multiplayer.

While the game is in development at Treyarch, the Black Ops Cold War campaign is the work of Raven Software. It will serve as a direct follow-on to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, although the details of its story are still unknown. Several famous characters from the original game will be making a return, however, including Frank Woods and Alex Mason. The Nowhere Left to Run mission, which features in the trailer, takes place in Turkey. According to a leak, other missions will take players as far afield as Vietnam, Russia, and even Nicaragua.

It’s currently unknown how far into the campaign the ‘Nowhere Left to Run’ mission is. However, one would presume that it’s relatively early, given that Activision is willing to show it off pre-launch. Notably, the gameplay footage shows off several new gameplay features, including the ruthless ability to take enemies as human shields. It also showcases the use of a RV bomb; something which may well feature in the game’s multiplayer as a Scorestreak or Field Upgrade.
