Call of Duty Black Ops 4: How Does Blackout Compare to PUBG?

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has finally arrived, and with it comes the unique battle royale experience Blackout. There’s no denying that Blackout stands out in a genre as crowded as battle royale, and fans have noticed. However, how does Blackout compare to the battle royale heavy hitters? If you’re used to battle royale games like PUBG, you’ll likely find the transition to Blackout a smooth one. Heck, you might even find it to be a welcome one.

How does Call of Duty Black Ops 4's Blackout compare to PUBG?

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout vs. PUBG

I’ve long been a fan of PUBG, but even I have to admit it has its shortcomings. Despite the game’s age, developer Bluehole has done little to fix its poor optimization and performance. PUBG certainly has a massive community which shows no signs of depleting. However, that community is still playing a game which looks and feels like it was made 10 years ago.

Transitioning over from PUBG to Blackout feels like night and day when it comes to technical performance. Given its massive production budget, Blackout feels clean, smooth, and technically sound. Granted, there’s no third-person camera option and character customization isn’t as robust as it is in PUBG. Those are small sacrifices to make, though, when you see how highly optimized Blackout is right out of the box. I doubt more diehard PUBG loyalists will want to jump ship, and that’s totally fine. If, however, you’ve grown frustrated with PUBG’s poor performance one too many times, Blackout could be your saving grace.

Like PUBG, Blackout has a more grounded military feel, drivable vehicles, and an in-depth challenge-based progression system. Blackout also has unique mechanics such as unlockable Black Ops avatars and even zombie spawns. I won’t say Blackout is necessarily better than PUBG, but it certainly provides a worthy battle royale alternative.
