Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 PC System Optimization Tips

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC and consoles is releasing in a couple of weeks, including its classic multiplayer, a Zombies mode and Blackout. Right before its launch, here are some time for system optimization for the game on Windows 10.

Over at Reddit, GeForceRTX has provided a few helpful tips for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC, with a straight up guide on how to perform every task. Note that all tips require some basic software knowledge, so if you’re not familiar with such procedures, then don’t proceed. If you want to experiment though, well, the responsibility is yours.

Here are the full list of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 On PC tips on Windows 10:

1. Play the game in Fullscreen (not Borderless Windowed)

Windows 10 forces Triple Buffering in Borderless Windowed mode, which adds input lag. Read more about it on answers.microsoft.com

Borderless Windowed – Input Lag (listen for mouse click)

Fullscreen – No Input Lag

2. Reboot just before you play, or clear your standby list

Windows 10 aggressively caches data in its standby list so it will be available next time you launch a game. Unfortunately, it can stick around (even for months!) after you play (or even just update) a different game. This is especially true of the Battle.net launcher.

3. Disable VSync and cap your in-game framerate

Like #1, VSync will add input lag. Ideally you would use GSYNC or FreeSync to handle syncing of framerates below your monitor’s refresh rate, combined with a framerate limiter to prevent framerates above your monitor’s refresh rate. Black Ops should have an in-game framerate limiter (which should be the best option, as in addition to creating no lag, will also ensure client-side predictions and animations are calculated according to the framerate limit).

4. Update your BIOS, drivers, and double check your CPU and memory speeds

Now’s the time to make sure your system is up to date and running properly for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC. It’s more common than you think for people to unknowingly be running at reduced CPU or memory speeds.

Check your motherboard & video card manufacturer for BIOS and driver updates. Intel also has a Driver Update Scanner. Use CPU-Z to confirm CPU and memory speeds are what you expect.

One more thing to add, and one that fellow Redditors have added too, is the installation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC on an SSD. This will eliminate long rendering times and will shorten loading screens. These were problems that fans have pointed out many times in previous Black Ops games so make sure to be prepared and have fun when the game releases.
