Cyberpunk 2077 Side-Quests Will Impact the Main Story

So far, gamers have only seen a very small portion of Cyberpunk 2077’s story; that which was shown in the 47-minute gameplay demo. That footage, of course, is certainly subject to change. The game’s release date hasn’t yet been revealed, after all. In a recent interview, Level Designer Miles Tost indicated that, not only will the game’s main story be detailed, but the Cyberpunk 2077 side-quests could impact it.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Side-Quests Could Influence the Main Storyline

Speaking recently with GamingBolt, Tost said that; “Side quests are great opportunities for us to tell stories of our cyberpunk world. After all, despite not being a part of the main questline, they are still connected to the world and can elaborate on certain parts of it, like the characters. So it’s all interwoven. And yes, that also means that our side quests could affect the main story.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Side-Quests Will Impact the Main Story

This ties back to statements made by Senior Quest Designer Philipp Weber on a similar topic during another recent interview. At the time, Weber emphasised the significance of consequences from story decisions in Cyberpunk 2077; “One thing we also want to do is every choice has a consequence,” he says; “or can have multiple consequences. So maybe whatever you do in this one quest has maybe also a consequence in two or three other quests, which will then also go even further.”

It certainly sounds as though the Cyberpunk 2077 side-quests will be even more integrated to the game’s story than CD Projekt Red’s previous titles. The Witcher 3 had instances where side-quests played key roles in the story. However, there were also plenty of quests which rarely did, if they did at all. It remains to be seen how much the two types of quests; core story and side-quests, will be interwoven. Hopefully the studio will begin to reveal more gameplay footage early in 2019.
