Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have A “Good Reason” For Its Full-Frontal Nudity

You may have heard by now that Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t going to be pulling any punches when it comes to nudity or adult themes in the game. As it turns out, that’s all for a very good reason. According to game director Adam Badowski during an interview with Polygon, the reason for the nudity, which will likely be a large theme in the game, is all part of the storyline. His reasoning? It’s a cyberpunk world, so of course folks will be augmenting their bodies and making changes to it, so we’re going to need to see it.

“This is cyberpunk, so people augment their body,” Badowski said to Polygon. “So the body is no longer sacrum [sacred]; it’s profanum [profane]. Because people modify everything, they are losing their connection to the body, to the meat. And that’s why we need to use the nudity in many situations.”

Specifically, nude situations will arise when you’re using Cyberpunk 2077’s character creator. In the demo shown off to press at E3 2018, there were blurred bits over any genitals, but they’ll be removed in the full game, presumably because people are adults and can handle a little nudity. It’ll also be present in the game proper as well, where a woman is kidnapped and is eventually found with her body packed in ice. Any censorship, according to the developers, would remove the severity and realism to the situation.

Traditionally, nudity in gaming has been a bit of a hot topic, but it’s going to be interesting to see a game handling it like it’s any other aspect of life. That’s what Cyberpunk 2077 needs, especially to juxtapose it with the other elements that wouldn’t be happening anywhere near reality for quite some time. Hopefully, it can make something incredible with all these limitations out of play, because what we’ve seen so far certainly looks like an amazing release. We can’t wait to get our hands on it.
