Cylostra Direfin is the First Original Character in Total War: Warhammer 2

Curse of the Vampire Coast is the next DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. The expansion was unveiled around two weeks ago by Creative Assembly, who also recently live-streamed a full roster reveal for the new Vampire Coast faction. The studio has already revealed details about the new faction’s four Legendary Lords. One in particular is a very interesting addition indeed; not only is Cylostra Direfin an impressive character, but she is also the first Legendary Lord in the series who isn’t based on existing lore from the Warhammer Fantasy tabletop wargame.

Cylostra Direfin is Creative Assembly’s First Original Character

Until now, every Legendary Lord who has appeared in the Total War: Warhammer series has been Creative Assembly’s take on an existing character. Not all of them are represented with miniatures. However, they do all exist somewhere in the Warhammer Fantasy lore. Although the studio has designed new original units, especially for the Norsca faction and the upcoming Vampire Coast, who haven’t had rules or miniatures in the tabletop game, they have never designed any original Legendary Lords. The Vampire Coast’s other three lords are Luthor Harkon, Count Noctilus, and Aranessa Saltspite. Although Creative Assembly has certainly given them all impressive designs, all three characters did exist already, albeit only in obscure lore.

Cylostra Direfin is One of the Curse of the Vampire Coast Lords

Cylostra Direfin is the studio’s first completely original Legendary Lord. The studio released a new video highlighting the lord earlier today. Like Aranessa Saltspite, this Vampire Coast lord is not actually a vampire. However, while Aranessa is a human with mutations, Cylostra is a ghost; “When travelling from her homeland of Bretonnia to Ulthuan,” explains Creative Assembly; “to sing for the Phoenix King, a devastating storm threatened to delay her arrival. Fuelled by impetuous arrogance, Cylostra Direfin performed a solo mutiny, throwing the captain overboard and commandeering the ship and crew. Felled by her own hubris, the ship capsized. However, refusing to allow her talents to perish in the black depths of the seas, she returned as a vengeful spirit, hoping that she might finally perform to the Phoenix King in her deathly court of the drowned.”

Cylostra is the Vampire Coast’s magic-centric Legendary Lord. While Count Noctilus also has some magical abilities, Cylostra is a pure magic-user. She uses the Vampire Coast’s new Lore of Magic; the Lore of the Deep. She also has the unique ability to summon ghostly Bretonnian knights to serve her.
