Crack your knuckles and ready your fighting skills, as Dead or Alive 6 has been officially announced. The sixth installment in the long-running fighting game with titillating action will be arriving early next year in 2019. The game will be available for PC via Steam, PS4, and Xbox One; no plans for a Nintendo Switch were mentioned in the initial reveal. The exclusive announcement was made by IGN this morning.
This newest entry in the series will arrive nearly seven years after the first release of Dead or Alive 5. Though we have seen various versions of the fifth game, Dead or Alive 6 will be the first totally new game in quite some time. It will run on a brand new engine that will allow for more realistic details, including “dynamic facial expressions.”
Some examples of this include characters reacting accordingly when dealing out kicks and punches, sweat covering a character’s body after an intense combo ends, and wounds being visible when you have taken damage. Enhanced 4K graphics and a revamped lighting system will help to further the realistic look of Dead or Alive 6.
The central gameplay of what makes up Dead or Alive 6 will remain largely similar to previous games, but with some notable additions. There will be a new combo system called Fatal Rush and a new special attack system called Break Gauge. These two new features are meant to help welcome newcomers to the series while providing sufficient challenge to veterans. These two systems are built to allow for unfamiliar gamers to easily execute powerful attacks with simple inputs.
On the other hand, perfectly executing the Fatal Rush and Break Gauge won’t be easy, providing a necessary challenge for established fans of the franchise. Six characters have been confirmed thus far for Dead or Alive 6 including Hayate, Hayabusa, Helena, Jann Lee, Kasumi, and Zack. The game will release in early 2019.
