Deathgarden is Now Available as a Free-to-Try Asymmetrical Multiplayer Title

Deathgarden, the newest game from developer Behavior Interactive, is now available via Steam Early Access. If the game’s unique aesthetics or gameplay concept intrigue you but you don’t want to make a financial investment to try it for yourself, fear not as Behavior is running a unique free-to-try period in which the game is entirely free during its initial launch week.

In Deathgarden, players participate in asymmetrical competitive matches where a group of five “Runners” must fluidly navigate a procedurally generated garden biome and complete a series of objectives before escaping. The catch is that the Runners are also being pursued by a sixth “Hunter” player who can’t be killed and who can permanently kill the Runners once certain conditions are met.

Runners have to move to survive.

If the above concept sounds at all familiar that’s because it’s very similar to Behavior Interactive’s sleeper hit horror-themed competitive title Dead by Daylight in which a group of survivor players must escape a randomized map while avoiding an unstoppable killer who, you guessed it, is also controlled by a player. While Deathgarden contains the same basic DNA as Dead by Daylight, it also has a very different aesthetic, embracing a brighter, more open science fiction-esque presentation which is no less tense or terrifying, especially for the Runner players.

As of this writing, Deathgarden can be downloaded and played via Steam entirely for free, and it will remain free for an entire week until August 21. Once the free period ends, players can buy Deathgarden for $30 and retain any progress they made during the free week. Behavior Interactive is also offering a $50 Deluxe Edition that includes some bonus in-game cosmetic items, a copy of the game’s soundtrack, and a digital artbook. Those who own both Deathgarden and Dead by Daylight will also unlock exclusive crossover cosmetic items in both games.
