Destiny 2 Fans Are Finding Creative Ways to Mourn a Beloved Character

When Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion launches later this year, it will apparently kill off a beloved member of the game’s supporting cast, an occurrence which one Redditor actually predicted several days before it became public knowledge. Even though the event in question won’t technically occur until this upcoming September, fans in mourning are already finding some interesting ways to express their grief.

Spoilers for Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion follows!

If you’ve been following the recent Destiny 2 Forsaken story coverage as of late, then you know by now that the expansion will involve the apparent death of Cayde-6, the beloved Exo Hunter NPC who’s voiced by none other than Firefly star Nathan Fillion. Now that the initial shock of seeing Cayde-6 gunned down by the treacherous Awoken prince Uldren has worn off, fans are expressing their sorrow in a variety of ways.

Some fans are already fantasizing about the moment when they get to give Uldren some much-deserved payback, while others are expressing gratitude towards Bungie for giving the Destiny 2 community a villain that’s worth hating. Then there are those who are hoping that players will get to adopt Colonel, Cayde’s pet chicken. One particularly sadistic soul said they hope that, after besting Uldren in combat, they get to send him out on a quest to retrieve the head of a Vex Gatelord (a callback to a mission from the original Destiny) in exchange for sparing his life, only to kill him anyways after he’s completed the task.

Over on Twitter, the popular Destiny 2 YouTuber Datto shared a picture of a Cayde-6 memorial shrine that has already been constructed by fans at E3:

It remains to be seen whether Cayde-6’s death will indeed be permanent (it sure looks that way given what happens in the story trailer). However, no matter what, there’s some comfort to be had in the idea that his passing has united the Destiny 2 fan community both in their grief over his death and their seething hatred towards Uldren. Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will launch for all platforms on September 4.
