Destiny 2: How to Complete The Magician Invitation of the Nine Bounty

Another week means another Invitation of the Nine bounty for Destiny 2 players to complete. This time around, players must head to the planet Io for more Strike completions and more sample gathering. Completing The Magician bounty reveals new lore and grants a piece of Powerful Gear as a reward.

Destiny 2 The Magician Invitation of the Nine Bounty

As long as you’ve completed all previous bounties, you can pick up The Magician bounty from Xur. The bounty costs a mere nine Legendary Shards and includes four different tasks for players to complete. The Strike that players must finish this time around is the Pyramidion Strike on Io.

Players must also gather metaphysical samples from Vex, Taken, and Cabal enemies. Nine samples are needed from each race, and they’re sadly not guaranteed drops. Thankfully, the samples don’t fall on the ground but are instead automatically added to the player’s inventory.

Gathering Samples

The Vex and Taken samples should be easy enough to gather since both enemy types frequently appear on Io. In fact, the Pyramidion Strike itself should grant plenty of Vex and Taken samples so it’s a good first stop. If you still need any samples after completing the Pyramidion, just hunt around on Io’s surface. The planet’s two Lost Sectors also contain plenty of Vex and Taken enemies respectively.

Cabal samples will be a bit trickier if you stick to just Io. Cabal do technically appear on Io, but only during the Cabal Mining Drill public event. If you’d rather not spend hours waiting for and grinding a single public event, you actually don’t have to.

The bounty’s description infers that only Io enemies drop the samples, but that’s actually not the case. Any enemies of the appropriate type can drop samples regardless of where you kill them. Therefore, you can just head to the EDZ or some other area where Cabal are more plentiful.

Back to the Derelict

Same as before, completing the bounty will send you to the Drifter’s ship, the Derelict. Select the ‘Mystery and Potential’ node in the Gambit sub-screen to reach the Derelict and head through the portal. Jump down into the central pit as if you were starting a Reckoning match. You’ll be presented with a jumping puzzle involving platforms that look like Drifter’s coin.

At the top of the puzzle you’ll find the Emissary of the Nine arguing with her superiors about the Drifter. Once she’s done a chest containing your Powerful Gear reward will spawn. Once you’re back in orbit, you can head to the Drifter in the Tower for even more lore. It turns out the Emissary used to be a Guardian herself before she decided to seek out the Nine.
