Destiny 2: Redditors Want a Proper Vex-Themed Expansion

The Destiny series has long employed a trend of theming specific content releases around specific enemy races. Obviously it makes sense if the enemy in question is new, but even existing enemies are used in this fashion. However, the official Destiny Reddit community feels one race in particular is sorely under-represented: the Vex.

Destiny 2 Reddit Vex expansion requests.

Redditor MizterF makes some valid points in their initial post. Currently, the Vex have only have a prominent appearance in three specific pieces of Destiny content:

  • The final portion of the original Destiny’s story campaign leading into the Black Garden
  • The original Destiny’s Vault of Glass raid
  • Destiny 2’s smaller (and ill-received) Curse of Osiris expansion

Consequently, compare that to the other enemy races and there’s a clear imbalance:

  • Fallen: Rise of Iron expansion, Archon’s Forge, Wrath of the Machine and Scourge of the Past raids, Prison of Elders, Forsaken expansion
  • Hive: The Dark Below expansion, Crota’s End raid, Warmind expansion, Escalation Protocol
  • Cabal: Destiny 2 story campaign, Leviathan raid, Eater of Worlds and Court of Stars raid lairs
  • Taken: The Taken King expansion, King’s Fall raid, Forsaken Dreaming City region, Blind Well, Last Wish raid

Granted, there is more Vex-themed content worth mentioning such as Strikes and even weapons, but that’s just splitting hairs. It does feel like the Vex are long overdue in getting an expansion that properly explores their backstory. Curse of Osiris took a few tentative steps in that direction, but it ultimately created more questions than it answered.

The Vex’s use of time travel and probability simulations makes it one of Destiny’s more fascinating races. Hopefully Bungie plans on giving the Vex their proper due at some point in the near future. In the meantime, the Destiny Reddit community is as active as ever. Be sure to read previous Reddit testimonials on color-changing Supers and why Mayhem isn’t a permanent PvP mode.
