Destiny 2’s 2.0 Update is Now Live

We’re a little less than a week out from the launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion, and now Bungie has released the sizeable 2.0 game update which paves the way for the expansion’s new content additions.

The official launch trailer has also arrived.

The full patch notes for the 2.0 update can be found here and they are quite extensive. Below is a brief roundup of everything the 2.0 update affects:

  • Certain Primary and Special weapons can now be attached to either the Kinetic or Energy weapon slot
  • Specific Year 1 Heavy weapons have been turned into Kinetic weapons
  • Certain class-specific Exotic armor pieces have been reworked
  • Swords have received some noticeable buffs
  • Visual layouts for the Director, Guardian skill trees, the in-game inventory, and more have been adjusted
  • Shaders can now be dismantled in stacks of five by visiting Master Rahool
  • All three Guardian classes have received tweaks to existing powers and grenades
  • Meditations have been replaced with a Heroic Story mission playlist
  • Strikes have been updated with a new Legacy/Forsaken/Nightfall playlist, and Prestige Nightfalls have been retired
  • Cayde-6 has left the Tower and thus Treasure Maps and Scout Reports are no longer available
  • Xur no longer has a destination marker denoting which planet he’s on, and he’ll no longer automatically go to the same planet as the weekly Flashpoint
  • Vault size has been increased to 500 slots total

Along with the 2.0 update, Bungie also uploaded the official Destiny 2: Forsaken launch trailer. The trailer introduces the major players of the expansion (Petra Venj, The Spider, Uldren Sov, etc.) and reveals that, for the first time in Destiny 2, our Guardians will actually speak as part of the expansion’s new narrative.

Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion launches on September 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Before that, players will be able to try out Forsaken’s new Gambit mode as part of a pre-launch free trial.
