Destiny 2’s Joker’s Wild DLC Will Include Catch-Up Mechanics For Underleveled Players

With the upcoming Season of the Drifter and accompanying Joker’s Wild expansion, Destiny 2 will receive another max power increase. The current power cap of 650 will rise to 700, giving all players new heights to strive towards.

However, more power levels to climb through isn’t so appealing for players who are already struggling to reach max power. Thankfully, Bungie has already thought of this problem and has said it plans on addressing it.

Over on the official Destiny subreddit, a user recently posted a rather timely and relevant concern. They hadn’t even reached a higher enough power level to access the Black Armory DLC (recommended power 610). And yet, now Joker’s Wild will be raising the power cap even higher, which means more inaccessible content. Given Black Armory’s high minimum power requirements, players are assuming Joker’s Wild will take a similar approach.

Bungie community manager Cozmo directly responded to the concerned fan’s comment, saying that their issue will be addressed. According to Cozmo, Bungie is working on a system through which players can power up quickly. This will in turn allow them to immediately jump into the new Joker’s Wild content.

We won’t know what exactly the new catch-up system will be or how it will function. In the past, Bungie has utilized level-boost consumables and more plentiful Powerful Gear engrams to speed up leveling. Our guess is that the Joker’s Wild system will skew more towards the latter than the former. It’s unlikely that Bungie will simply let fans jump immediately to a Joker’s Wild-appropriate power level, but you never know.

Fans reacted poorly when they discovered that Black Armory had such a high initial power requirement. As a result, Bungie is likely trying to find a balance between keeping Joker’s Wild accessible and endgame-focused. Joker’s Wild is the second of three DLC packs included in Destiny 2’s Annual Pass (Black Armory was the first). The third expansion, Penumbra, will follow sometime this summer.
