Destiny 2’s Last Wish Raid Won’t Be Getting a Prestige Difficulty

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has announced that the game’s Last Wish raid won’t be getting a prestige mode. However, Bungie does plan on adding in a brand new raid lair before year’s end.

Destiny 2's Last Wish raid won't be getting a prestige mode.

No Prestige Mode for Destiny 2’s Last Wish Raid

Bungie explained its reasoning for the lack of a Last Wish prestige mode in this blog post. Basically, Bungie doesn’t want players to feel like they have to master both standard and prestige difficulties:

“We wanted to create an experience that offered the truest forms of every encounter from day one, and offered some of the most powerful rewards in the game to anyone who could succeed.”

Interestingly enough, Bungie’s decision to forgo a prestige mode contradicts earlier comments made at this year’s TGS. The TGS interview heavily implied a prestige version of the Last Wish raid was on the way. However, Bungie either had a change of heart or the TGS information was inaccurate from the beginning. Either way, there won’t be a prestige mode for the Last Wish raid now or ever.

However, it wasn’t all bad news for Destiny 2 raiding fans. In the same post, Bungie also confirmed it is planning a new raid lair for the upcoming Black Armory expansion. Black Armory will be the first of three smaller expansions included in Destiny 2’s Annual Pass. The current schedule puts Black Armory’s release somewhere in the December, 2018 range. After that, the Joker’s Wild expansion will follow in Spring, 2019, and then the Penumbra expansion in Summer, 2019.

Bungie promises that more information on Black Armory and its new raid lair should be forthcoming “real soon.” In the meantime, Destiny 2 players can try their hand at the Last Wish and the raid-esque Shattered Throne experience. Just note that the Shattered Throne is only available during very specific timeframes.
