Destiny 2’s Prestige Raid Lairs Will Have a Staggered Release

Destiny 2’s upcoming July 17 update will be introducing some big changes to the game, especially for those who enjoy Crucible PvP combat. However, for the game’s raiding community, the update’s standout addition will undoubtedly be the Prestige versions of the two currently available Raid Lars, Eater of Worlds and Spire of Stars. There will be plenty of incentives for players to give the Prestige Raid Lairs a try, but to ensure that more dedicated raiders have a chance to prepare for a potential world’s first completion run, the release of the Prestige lairs will be slightly staggered.

All speedrunners will have an equal go at the Prestige Raid Lairs.

According to the most recent This Week at Bungie blog post, the staggered release of the Prestige Raid Lairs is meant to ensure that all potential world’s first runners have ample time to prepare for their attempt. Destiny 2 senior designer Joe Blackburn went into a little more detail on how the staggered release will be rolled out:

“Based on player feedback—and to ensure each World’s First race has a clean start—we’re changing the release times of each activity. Eater of Worlds will receive a one-hour delay to ensure players have ample time to download and install Destiny 2 Update 1.2.3 once it becomes available. Spire of Stars has been delayed 24 hours to offset the activity releases.”

What this means is that the Eater of Worlds Prestige Raid Lair won’t be available until 11 a.m. PST (2 p.m. EST) on July 17, giving players a full hour after the release of update 1.2.3. to get the update downloaded and installed. Meanwhile, the Spire of Stars Prestige Raid Lair won’t go live until 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) on July 18, allowing potential world’s first runners to focus solely on the Eater of Worlds Raid Lair on the day of the update’s launch.

Blackburn also noted in the blog post that the main purpose of the Prestige Raid Lairs isn’t to be blitzed through as quickly as possible, but for those dedicated few who enjoy chasing world’s first completions, Bungie is doing all it can to ensure a fair race to the finish line.
