Destiny: Guardians Is South Korean Destiny 2 with More Microtransactions

This upcoming September, the same month as the launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion, Bungie will actually be launching a second Destiny game called Destiny: Guardians. However, before you get all excited, Destiny: Guardians will actually just be a slightly modified version of Destiny 2 that will only be available in South Korea. Oh, and it will apparently have a lot more microtransactions.

Destiny: Guardians will he more microtransactions-focused.

According to this Eurogamer report, Destiny: Guardians will function in many of the same ways that Destiny 2 currently does. Players will have access to the same expansion packs (including Forsaken) and other content that they would in Destiny 2, but if they head on over to the Tower, they won’t find Tess Everis, the NPC who runs the microtransactions-driven Eververse in-game shop, in her usual spot. Instead, they’ll find a new merchant named Yuna, and Yuna will have a much more diverse stock on offer.

While Bungie is likely still hashing out the details, the Eurogamer reports says that Yuna will allow players to purchase, among other things, XP boosts, armor, and weapons, all for real money. Not only that, but the armor and weapons on offer will apparently be at endgame levels of power, suggesting that players with money to burn will be able to buy their way to a high-powered Guardian. To avoid any muddying of the waters, Destiny: Guardians will reportedly run on entirely separate servers than the standard Destiny 2 game.

One last thing worth mentioning is that the Festival of the Lost event, a Halloween-themed event which made multiple appearances in the original Destiny and yet skipped out on Destiny 2’s first year of operation, will also apparently be coming to Destiny: Guardians. While no official confirmation has been given by Bungie, this seems to indicate that the Festival of the Lost could be coming to Destiny 2 as well.

Destiny: Guardians will launch on September 5, one day after the September 4 launch of the Forsaken expansion. In the meantime, Destiny 2’s next major update will be arriving later this month on July 17, an update that will be making some pretty significant changes to the game’s Crucible PvP system.
