DICE Reveals Five New Battlefield 2042 Specialists

As we near the upcoming release of Battlefield 2042 in late-November, DICE has unveiled the next group of playable Specialists, joing the half-dozen which featured in the game’s Open Beta. These five new characters all offer a different style of play, with unique gadgets and abilities that make them distinct.

DICE Unveils Another Five Specialists for Battlefield 2042

DICE’s latest gameplay trailer for Battlefield 2042 introduces five new Specialists to the existing playable roster. First up is Navin Rao, an Indian Specialist in the Recon class. Nao’s Trojan Network ability highlights nearby enemies after he kills a hacked target. His Cyber Warfare Suite, meanwhile, lets him hack a variety of in-game objects and enemies.

Next up is Santiago “Dozer” Espinoza, from Mexico, who joins the roster of Assault Specialists. Dozer looks set to be a very resilient option, as his Blast Resistant trait reduces damage from explosions and helps him to recover faster. He also carries an SOB-8 Ballistic Shield, which he can bring out to block incoming enemy fire.

The third new Specialist is another Assault, this time from France, called Emma “Sundance” Rosier. She is the Specialist who comes equipped with a Wingsuit, which has appeared in numerous trailers and pre-release images. She also has Smart Explosives, which can switch between anti-armour, EMP, and scatter grenade options.

A second new Recon Specialist is #4, Ji-Soo Park, from South Korea. Her Threat Perception trait will automatically highlight enemies who damage her. Her EMG-X Scanner, however, has already caused something of a stir among fans, because it allows her to see through walls and highlights enemy locations.

The final new addition is Constantin “Angel” Anghel, a Romanian Support Specialist. Angel’s Trauma Specialist trait means that he can revive fallen allies more quickly while also restoring their armour. He also has the ability to call down Loadout Crates, which allow him and his allies to get armour & ammo, and even swap their loadouts.

Battlefield 2042 Specialists Getting a Mixed Reception

Unfortunately for DICE, the inclusion of Specialists in Battlefield 2042 is already proving contentious. One need only look at the Like-to-Dislike ratio on the above trailer to see that a sizeable portion of Battlefield players have their doubts about them. While unique named Specialists are not a new concept for Battlefield – they did feature in Battlefield V to some extent (although generic soldiers remained the primary playable option), the Battlefield 2042 Specialists are a much bigger part of the game. Plus, they provide tangible, in-game benefits; something which Battlefield V’s characters did not. Evidently, the change is not proving universally popular.
