Call of Duty: Vanguard Will Launch With 20 Multiplayer Maps

The first details about Call of Duty: Vanguard, the next major Call of Duty title coming later this year from Sledgehammer Games, have now been unveiled. While its story campaign and Zombies mode have gotten the most attention, Vanguard will be launching with a substantial Multiplayer mode, boasting no less than 20 maps at release.

According to Activision, the amount of Multiplayer content available at launch for Call of Duty: Vanguard will be; “massive”. Of the 20 starting maps, 16 will be designed for core Multiplayer gameplay. (i.e., the number isn’t inflated by a large number of tiny Gunfight maps, or somesuch thing.) “Featuring a wide variety of diverse environments,” writes Activision; “prepare for adrenaline-fueled action where intense Call of Duty combat is the name of the game as you rise through the ranks in your journey to become one of the original Special Forces Operators.”

Like the story campaign, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Multiplayer component is being developed by Sledgehammer Games. Existing Call of Duty players should feel at home in Vanguard’s Multiplayer; it seems thus far that Sledgehammer is merely building upon the existing Multiplayer format of Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War, rather than reinventing anything from scratch. The game will feature a Gunsmith and Caliber system, for example. (Although Activision does mention that it will be an “advanced” version of the system.)

In addition, the 2v2 Gunfight mode, which has become increasingly popular since its introduction in Modern Warfare, is getting an expansion. A new dedicated Multiplayer called Champion Hill will take the Gunfight format onto a wider stage. “Imagine quick-action, close-quarters, small-squad combat,” explains Activision; “in which eight teams compete in a series of head-ti-head matchups where the last team standing wins.”

More details about the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer should be coming soon. Sledgehammer Games have confirmed that an Open Beta will be taking place in the near future. Given that the game is due to release on the 5th of November, fans shouldn’t have to wait long.
