Epic Announces the Winner of the Boogiedown Dance Emote Contest

When it comes to maximizing engagement with fans, Epic Games is a company that knows what it’s doing. A few weeks ago, Epic announced the Boogiedown dance contest—a chance for players to compete to inspire a brand new emote for Fortnite.

Since then, thousands of submissions have streamed in—and Epic has picked its winner, a Twitter user called Populotus. You can check out Populotus’ entry as well as the four runners up in the video below:

Populotus’ dance will of course be turned into an emote for Fortnite. Expressing his excitement and gratitude on Twitter, he said, “WOOOOOOW I can’t believe this, I won the Boogie Down Challenge! I’m super happy. Thank you so much for your congratulation, I appreciate your kindness.”

Epic is being quite generous with the prizes. The four runners up featured in the video alongside Populotus will each be given 10,000 V-Bucks. They will get a real-life souvenir as well to display in the form of a Boogie Bomb explosive replica with a $150 value. The next five runners up will not receive Boogie Bomb replicas, but they will get 10,000 V-Bucks apiece. The next 90 runners up will get V-Bucks as well in decreasing amounts.

Seriously, how many game companies would come up with such a fun, creative way to engage with fans? This continual interaction and appreciation is one of the reasons why Fortnite has become such a big deal. Players around the world can’t wait to see what Epic Games will come up with next.
