Fallout New Vegas Mod Adds the Fallout 76 Mutation Mechanics

Although many gamers have understandable concerns about Fallout 76, the game does also have its good parts. The survival mechanics, for example, are a perfect addition to the franchise, and fit very nicely with its aesthetic and existing mechanics. Another good new feature is the Fallout 76 mutation system, which allows players to gain mutations which typically have both benefits and drawbacks. Now, thanks to a Fallout New Vegas mod, fans of the older Fallout games can bring this system to the 2010 title.

“FO76 Style Mutations”: Fallout New Vegas Mod Adds Fallout 76 Mutation System

The new Fallout New Vegas mod is simply entitled; “FO76 Style Mutations”. It was made available on NexusMods by modder Hopper31, who has made numerous mods for Fallout New Vegas in the past. According to the modder, most of the mutations from Fallout 76 feature in the mod; “Most of the existing mutations were transferred over apart from Carnivore, Herbivore, and Plague Walker, which either proved extremely difficult to implement, or lacked an equivalent prerequisite to function.

Fallout New Vegas Mod Adds Fallout 76 Mutations 2

Just like in Fallout 76, players can get mutations when they expose themselves to radiation. Alternatively, they can artificially gain mutations via serums. Players can buy these from several vendors, or craft them themselves. However, crafting them will require 100 Science. Overall, the Fallout New Vegas mod adds 16 different mutations to the game. Players can remove mutations via RadAway. However, Hopper31 also includes a new item called “Mutate-Away”. This consumable is guaranteed to remove one mutation, selected at random. RadAway only has a chance to remove one. Rad-X will also temporarily suppress mutation effects.

For players who want more control over their mutations, there is a feature for that; “Should you like your current mutation setup,” explains Hopper31; “Dr. Usanagi sells a Gene Starcher, which lets you lock your current mutations, preventing you from either gaining or losing them. The Gene Starcher is re-usable, and will toggle whether or not you can lose/gain mutations each time you use it.”
