Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire: Carmina Rye, the Assaulter

One of the more popular new gameplay features from Far Cry 5, the Gun-for-Hire system is making its return in Far Cry New Dawn, complete with a roster of new companion characters (with the exception of Hurk). This time around, the Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire roster features eight companions instead of nine, with only two Fangs-for-Hire; Horatio and Timber. However, along with other new faces like Nana, The Judge, and Gina Guerra is Carmina Rye; the daughter of returning characters Kim and Nick Rye.

Gamers who played Far Cry 5 will no doubt remember Nick Rye, the pilot who was also a Gun-for-Hire in that game. After meeting the player, Nick resolved to stand his ground against the cult to protect his home and his pregnant wife, Kim. In fact, their baby was born during the course of the game, following a hectic side mission where the player had to drive them to a clinic. Carmina was born shortly thereafter.

Seventeen years later and Carmina has grown up knowing only the inside of a bunker and the new Hope County. When the Highwaymen arrived, they captured and imprisoned Nick, leaving Kim to become the de facto leader of the Prosperity survivors. Carmina is a fierce enemy of the Highwaymen as a result. However, she also knows that they cannot fight the raiders alone, and so she left Prosperity and travelled across country to find Thomas Rush and enlist his aid.

Carmina Rye is the first Gun-for-Hire you’ll meet in Far Cry New Dawn. Her archetype, which is a new type that didn’t feature in Far Cry 5, is ‘Assaulter’. In battle, this means that she is a reliable soldier who wields an assault rifle, favouring mid-range offensive engagements. Like some other Guns-for-Hire, Carmina’s first ability is actually a vehicle; a standard Car. She’ll spawn with this vehicle when you summon her. Her second ability is ‘Dynamite’ which allows her to throw sticks of dynamite. Finally, her third ability is ‘Make It a Triple,’ which allows her to throw up to three sticks of dynamite “in quick succession.”
