FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Brings New FUT Friendlies, House Rules, & Customization Options

The FIFA 20 Ultimate Team game mode brings a number of new features when the video game arrives this September. Among them will be the updated Season Objectives and brand new FUT Friendlies options. There are also new customization options, House Rules, and an upgrade for the Season Objectives system. Here’s a look at some of the new features that EA is bringing to the virtual pitch in Ultimate Team.

FIFA 20 Ultimate Team updates include FUT Friendlies

Just a day ago, EA revealed the FIFA Ultimate Edition cover featuring Zinedine Zidane. He’ll also be amongst the FUT 20 Icons with Andrea Pirlo, Ian Wright, Ronald Koeman, and more. On Wednesday, July 31, EA put their new FIFA 20 Ultimate Team on display for gamers to get an early preview of what’s on the way. The full pitch notes are here, but we’ll look at some of the new additions in this article.

The FUT Friendlies option is new to the game. It allows gamers to participate in different matchups which won’t use up any player contracts or fitness. Additionally, they won’t “carry over injuries and red cards” according to EA’s Pitch Notes. That gives FUT gamers a way to test out their lineups and with a deep stats tracking system, can also evaluate which of their friends are the top competition.

FUT Friendlies will give gamers a choice of three ways to play Ultimate Team. One option is Couch Play with up to four players and AI opponents. Another choice will be to play online against the FUT community. A third option allows gamers to “Play a Friend.” Each of these options provides a range of different ways to play including selecting a random opponent, or finding one to play with the new House Rules.

Four new House Rules options in FUT

FIFA 19 brought House Rules as one of the options for games and they’ll now be available for FIFA 20 Ultimate Team. Survival and No Rules are back as House Rules from FIFA 19 Kick Off Mode. In addition, there are four new House Rules options. Here’s an overview of each of the new FUT 20 House Rules.

  • Mystery Ball – At each stoppage in play the side with the ball will get boosts to certain skills or attributes. That could include Passing, Shooting, Dribbling, Speed, or all of them at once. It’s a way to enjoy the game with a bit of unpredictability added in.
  • King of the Hill – This particular House Rules option will involve fighting to get the ball in a special zone on the pitch. The winning side gets a boost in terms of how much their next goal is worth.
  • Max Chemistry – This House Rules option is listed as exclusive to FUT and will give all of the players “maximum individual chemistry.”
  • Swaps – This option is also exclusive to FUT. It features another element of unpredictability as players from your team are swapped with players from the opposing team. So you could gain or lose a top star playing with these rules.

New FUT Customization options

The whole concept of FIFA 20 Ultimate Team is to build your own superteam to topple the competition. It should involve strategic selection of players and upgrading, but also giving a unique style for your team. Thanks to new customization options, gamers should have plenty of that in FIFA 20.

EA previewed some of the new customization options that will become available in their tweet, with more description in the Pitch Notes.

The two new additions for FUT 20 are Stadium Themes and Tifos. The Stadium Theme is present during the games and will be visible in the crowd and on the sidelines. The Tifos are part of pre-match introductions, and may also be featured in the replays of game highlights.

EA also mentions that with the new ability to mix and match from eight different team options, there will be thousands of unique team styles in FUT mode. It’s going to be fun seeing what clever and creative ideas start popping up for the different Ultimate Teams. That said, many in the gaming community are already viewing this as simply more FUT pack filler.

FUT Season Objectives and Objectives System

This has been updated for the FIFA 20 Ultimate Team mode and serves as the way to make your team better. Season Objectives will consist of Daily, Weekly, Season, and Dynamic Objectives in FUT 20. Gamers will earn XP as they progress through these. Also, as gamers move through each Season’s levels, better rewards will become available through the Season Objectives. Along the way, there will be options to upgrade your club with different rewards such as players, packs, or customization options.

Gamers will also have long-term goals they’ll try to achieve with their FIFA 20 Ultimate Team. With these Milestone Objectives will come rewards for achieving Milestone moments. An example shown at EA’s FIFA website is a 16-bit soccer ball reward for scoring four different types of goals, 100 times each during the season.

Reaction to that particular reward wasn’t necessarily of a positive nature. A lot of gamers would simply prefer rewards such as coins or packs rather than gimmicky objects. It makes sense as Ultimate Team is a fun mode, but involves either a lot of grinding or spending of money. That said, it appears there are also some nice new additions for the latest FIFA 20 Ultimate Team with the new House Rules options, customizations, and upgraded Squad Management.

The official FIFA 20 release date is September 27, 2019. Customers who place pre-orders for specific editions of the game receive their copies three days earlier. It’s important to remember that certain FIFA 20 pre-order editions come with extra Ultimate Team content, so keep that in mind when ordering.
