FIFA 21 Release Date: Pre-Order Details Released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Next-Gen Consoles

The newest EA sports simulation for international soccer finally got some big news on Thursday. The game will officially release in early October and will be available for multiple platforms. In addition, it will become available free of charge for the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, based on those who purchase for PS4 and Xbox One. Here are all of the details including FIFA 21 release date and pre-order details for all consoles.

FIFA 21 release date, consoles, and early access

On Thursday, the EA Play online presentation featured a look at the upcoming FIFA and Madden for the next-gen consoles. So gamers were able to get a glimpse of what’s to come with the highly-anticipated PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Prior to that, it was revealed that the FIFA 21 release date is Oct. 9, 2020, for most of the current consoles. That makes it nearly two weeks later than FIFA 20’s release date which was September 27, 2019.

The game will return to all the platforms that FIFA 20 is available for. So that means Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and PC via Steam or Origin.

However, EA has only noted that the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions will arrive on October 9. Also, the PC version is the same version as what PS4 and Xbox One owners will be playing.

However, Nintendo Switch will be different again, with a Legacy Edition. EA indicated more details are coming with regards to Google Stadia. It seems the same is true for the Legacy Edition on Nintendo Switch.

Just like previous editions, there will be early access for specific pre-orders. Anyone who pre-orders FIFA 21 Ultimate Edition or Champions Edition can begin playing the game three days earlier on Oct. 6, 2020. There will also be EA Access for Xbox One or PS4 and Origin Access for PC gamers starting on Oct. 1, 2020.

Free upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X

As far as upgrading FIFA 21 to the next-gen PlayStation 5 or Xbox One consoles, that will involve going through EA’s Dual Entitlement program. Basically, customers who buy the game for PS4 or Xbox One prior to the release of FIFA 22 (anticipated for fall 2021), can get a free upgrade when they get their new video game system.

A big thing to take note of with the upgrade deal is the format of FIFA 21 you purchase. If you buy it on a physical disc for PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll need to have a next-gen PS5 or Xbox Series X capable of playing discs. If you are getting a next-gen console that can’t play discs, you’ll need to buy the digital download version of FIFA 21 on your PS4 or Xbox One.
