The Five Playlist Takeovers Coming in Apex Legends War Games

Apex Legends players are about to get a whole series of new game modes to try thanks to the Apex Legends War Games event. Announced earlier today and due to begin early next week, War Games will feature no less than five “playlist takeovers,” where the Play Apex playlist changes the rules for a few days.

Apex Legends War Games: Playlist Takeovers

The first playlist takeover of the Apex Legends War Games event, Second Chance, begins on the 13th of April. In this mode, every player gets a single free respawn. When you die for the first time in a match, your Respawn Token is instantly used up. A short while later, you will skydive back into the match above where you died, with all your weapons and gear retained.

On the 15th of April, Second Chance swaps out for Ultra Zones, the second playlist takeover. In this mode, every match will feature multiple Hot Zones. Moreover, each Hot Zone is enclosed within a Flash Point; a mechanic which first featured during Season 6. This huge bubble will constantly refill both your shields and your health while you’re inside it. As such, the Hot Zones are likely to see even more fierce fighting over loot.

The third takeover, starting on the 19th, is Auto Banners. In this mode, the Banner Cards of fallen squadmates are retrieved automatically. This means that when one of your squadmates dies, there’s no need to pick up their Card from their loot box. To make respawning even easier, this mode also increases the number of Mobile Respawn Beacons.

Takeover #4 is Killing Time, which begins on the 21st. In this intense mode variant, the round time is reduced by a small amount whenever a player dies. This can result in time rapidly vanishing from the round timer if several players die one after another, meaning that the ring could start closing unexpectedly quickly.

The final playlist takeover of the War Games event starts on the 23rd and will run until the event ends on the 27th. Armour Regen is just what it sounds like; in this mode, every player’s armour will automatically regenerate by 12 points per second. Note that there is an 8-second delay after taking damage before this regeneration kicks in. In fact, if your armour cracks, you’ll have to wait twice as long. However, there is a down-side; the Armour Regen mode removes all Shield Cells from the loot pool.
