Fortnite: Infinity War Is Real … And There’s a Teaser Trailer

A lot of crazy stuff happens in Fortnite … but when you read the rumors this morning that Thanos was on his way to the game, you probably laughed it off. Surely Thanos coming to Fortnite would be impossible, right? Well, prepare to laugh even harder at how wrong you were.

It turns out Thanos is going to be in Fortnite in a limited-time game mode called “Infinity Gauntlet!” This event will take place tomorrow, May 8th.

The teaser trailer only states “Thanos is Coming to Fortnite.” Coming direct from Joe and Anthony Russo, this is flat-out amazing.

We already know a bit more about the Infinity Gauntlet mode. Apparently the Infinity Gauntlet will be in the map somewhere just waiting to be found. The player who finds it will become Thanos. According to Epic Games, that player will have “all the power” of Thanos.

Entertainment Weekly talked with the Russo brothers, and learned some additional details. For one thing, Joe and Anthony are huge fans of Fortnite. For another, a mashup between Avengers and Fortnite was actually their idea. Once they got it into their heads, they knew they had to make it happen, so they “stalked” Epic’s creative director Donald Mustard.

Mustard explains, “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

This is a totally amazing announcement for fans of Fortnite and the Avengers, and even though we know it’s for real, it’s still hard to believe! All players will be able to participate in the Infinity Gauntlet mode free of charge. It will be available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, PC and iOS. Thanos is coming tomorrow, May 8th. Don’t miss it!
