Fortnite Battle Royale has been around for more than four years. Released in September 2017, the battle royale game has become one of the most popular games in the history of gaming. Its peak happened in mid-2018, but even despite that, it still ranks at the very top of the list of the most popular video games at the moment.
Sony has recently released the list of the most-played video games on PlayStation 5. The list, which includes the 10 most popular titles, has Fortnite at its top. Furthermore, the video game is still very popular on other platforms, including streaming websites.
Fortnite is at the very top
Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan published an interesting blog post for PlayStation 5’s first birthday. This post revealed the list of the most popular video games on the console and Ryan revealed that players have collectively spent 4.6 billion hours of gameplay on Sony’s latest gaming device.
These are the most-played video games in the first year. Keep in mind, these games are ranked according to gameplay hours, not according to downloads, registrations, or anything else.

Fortnite ranking at the very top does come as a surprise, despite the game being free. Many players believe that the player count is rapidly declining, yet the game seems to be getting more and more popular in 2021. The PlayStation 5 version of Fortnite Battle Royale looks much better than the PlayStation 4 version. It has a much better and more stable framerate, better graphics, and it feels more enjoyable to play. However, the future is bringing even more improvements.
Epic Games has announced Fortnite’s transition to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021. However, it appears that this has been postponed and there are rumors that the new engine will come out before the next season. The new engine, combined with powerful hardware, will bring even more amazing things to the game and make it more enjoyable!
