Game Modes Confirmed for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha

Tomorrow, on the 18th of September, Activision will be launching the first Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha event, giving PS4 gamers exclusive early access to the upcoming game. The event, which will only be live over the weekend, will feature a range of different 6v6 and 12v12 game modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha – Game Modes

According to Activision, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha event will feature three traditional 6v6 game modes. Most of these should be familiar to Call of Duty players. They include Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed; all of which have been staples of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and previous games. (Although Activision does state that players should expect a larger capture area than in previous games for the Domination mode.)

However, alongside these more traditional game modes, players will also be able to play a new mode – Combined Arms: Domination. This 12v12 mode is set on larger maps, allowing for a wide range of different vehicles including; “Tanks, Snowmobiles, Wakerunners, and Gunboats”. Like the 6v6 Domination mode, Combined Arms: Domination tasks players with capturing and holding several different objective sites. However, the mode is substantially larger, offering players plenty of new ways to approach the simple format.

In addition to these four game modes, Activision has revealed that players will be able to try pre-release versions of several core multiplayer features. These include Create-a-Class, the new Gunsmith, and the new custom Scorestreaks. The Create-a-Class system, notably, will feature some of the new Field Upgrades; a new type of equipment which players will be able to earn over time in matches. There are also new Wildcards to try out, which; “fundamentally alter the rules of Create-a-Class, with four powerful options to choose from for maximum flexibility.” All of this will be available to play at 10:00 AM PDT on the 18th of September, when the Black Ops Cold War Alpha event goes live.
