Gearbox Announces New Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition

Earlier today, Gearbox Software held a major livestreamed event at PAX East; an event which was packed full of big announcements. Biggest of all was the release of a trailer for Borderlands 3, the first confirmation that the game is definitely in development. In addition to the announcement of an Ultra HD texture pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Gearbox also announced another upcoming release; Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition.

What is the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition?

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is a remastered release of the original Borderlands, and is due to release on the 3rd of April. This is actually the same day that the studio will be launching their free Ultra HD texture pack for the Handsome Collection, giving fans even more reason to return to the franchise. ‘Borderlands’ is the game where the beloved franchise began and was first released by Gearbox ten years ago; all the way back in 2009. In addition to featuring remastered graphics, the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition also includes most of the features which appear in the Handsome Collection.

Borderlands Game of the Year Edition Trailer Released

Like the upcoming texture pack, the edition will include Ultra HD, 4K graphics. It will also feature up to 4-player split-screen local co-op; a feature which wasn’t available in the original release. This feature was also added to both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! when they were assembled into The Handsome Collection. Of course, the Game of the Year Edition will also include all four of the game’s expansions; The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, The Secret Armoury of General Knoxx, and Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution.
