The Pokemon Company in collaboration with Pokemon Go has confirmed that the previously leaked generation eight Pokemon is real and its name is Meltan. This new Pokemon hasn’t been revealed to be officially a part of the generation eight games that come out next year but its number tag in Go certainly lends credence to that.
What’s more important right now, though, is that Meltan is a Mythical Pokemon and will be featured in the upcoming Let’s Go games. Most likely, this weird creature is going to be the brand new monster that was teased at the initial announcement of the games months back. It is a steel-type Mythical that is known as the “hex nut Pokemon.”
Surprisingly, you can catch Meltan right now but only currently in Pokemon Go since the Let’s Go games haven’t released. The official press release for the creature notes that Pokemon Go is “key” to catching the monster in the upcoming Nintendo Switch Kanto remakes. This certainly leads us to believe that you won’t encounter it naturally in the game world and must transfer it from the mobile game.
Though it is a Mythical Pokemon, it doesn’t seem to have the same catching requirements as Mew or Celebi. The press release notes that recently caught Ditto in the game are known to transform into Meltan and that some players may already have it in their party because of this.
As such, we recommend playing Pokemon Go in the coming months and keeping an eye for Meltan and any Ditto. Catching one or the other seems to be possibly the only way to collect this Mythical monster and transfer it to the Let’s Go games. Even if you don’t like its odd design, you will more than likely need it if you wish to complete the Pokedex in those games.
