Ubisoft has unveiled a new DLC expansion for Ghost Recon Wildlands called Special Operation 2, the second of four expansions that the studio plans to release during Wildlands’ second year of operation. Much like previous Wildlands expansions, Special Operation 2 will inject some fresh content into the game’s Ghost War PvP experience, but players who prefer the PvE component will also be able to test themselves in a hardcore new mode where death has harsh consequences.
The main highlight of Special Operation 2 will be what Ubisoft is calling ‘Ghost Mode.’ Ghost Mode will allow players to replay the Wildlands story campaign, either in single-player or via online co-op, under a new set of challenging parameters, with the potential to unlock unique new cosmetic rewards for their efforts. However, considering the restrictions they’ll be playing under, Ghost Mode is only intended for the most skilled Wildlands players since they’ll be playing with the following handicaps (text courtesy of Ubisoft):
- Permadeath: If players are not revived when down, their game is over and progression is reset.
- New Loadout: Players will only be able to use one main weapon and one handgun.
- Real Reloading: When players reload with a partially full clip, remaining bullets will be lost.
- Friendly Fire: Players’ shots and actions can cause damage to teammates.
- Gear Management: Players can only switch weapons at ammo boxes or by looting enemies.
- Teammate Removal: For a true solo experience, players can now choose to play without AI teammates (also available in the main campaign of the game).
As for Ghost War, the Special Operation 2 DLC will add in two new PvP maps, two new playable character classes (to be revealed at a later date), a new Observer Mode spectator feature for custom matches, a progression bar for tracking Ranked play progress, a post-match victory screen, and new cosmetic item types including victory poses, emotes, and voice lines (unlocked emotes and voice lines will also be usable in Wildlands’ PvE component).
