Gran Turismo on PS5 Could Run at 240 FPS

We’ve been hearing that a new Gran Turismo is on the way, and the series has been discussed a lot in connection with the possible capabilities of the PlayStation 5. Now, we might have a little more insight into the next title in the series as well as the PS5, thanks to some recent comments on a possible 240 FPS from Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi.

What Yamauchi Said About Gran Turismo at 240 FPS on PS5

Yamauchi had some interesting things to say about the possible frames per second (FPS) for the upcoming Gran Turismo game. Here is what he stated regarding the possibilities:

“Rather than a spatial resolution that you’re talking about, I’m more interested in the advancements we can make in terms of the time resolution. In terms of frames per second, rather than staying at 60 fps, I’m more interested in raising it to 120 fps or even 240 fps. I think that’s what’s going to be changing the experience from here on forward.”

If you are playing a racing game at 60 FPS, there is actually a five foot margin of error between what you see on the screen and the true location of your opponent’s vehicle. So, you can imagine how much that margin for error would shrink if the FPS were as high as 240.

8 new vehicles, a new race track, and multiple additions to the GT League come to Gran Turismo Sport

But will it happen? It sure would be awesome if it did. It would make it easier to play a racing game in terms of gauging what is going on and enjoying a more accurate experience. Also, the entire game would just run more smoothly and seamlessly, which would be advantageous as well.
