After a series of leaks over the mysterious Grand Theft Auto V Premium Edition being released this month, a brand new variety of photos has been published of what seems to be the box art. Courtesy of RockstarINTEL and GTA Series Videos.
One, which is a PS4 copy, displays the front of the cover art. It features a brand new design with old concept art of the three protagonists, Franklin, Trevor and Michael. Above, a heading states that the edition is labeled the “Premium Online Edition”. The edition includes Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto Online and the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack.
The premium edition was leaked almost a month ago when it was originally sighted on online retailer Amazon. Since then, we have had a confirmation from Kotaku. They claimed the edition would release this April, and only include the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack. Since the leak of this box art, that has been confirmed. However, the edition may have been delayed – possibly to make way for the rumored final major update to GTA Online before the release of upcoming sequel Red Dead Redemption 2. After a possible final update, then the edition would make more sense.
This wasn’t the only image released, however. Someone else has posted an Xbox One version, and shown the back of the cover, too. The back just outlines the main features of GTA Online alongside great screenshots. The only real extra information is the included “1,000,000 bonus cash”, which is already in the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack.
It’s most likely the edition will be the final one released before Rockstar Games begin to slowly limit their support for Grand Theft Auto Online post-launch content. There’s no doubt that they will continue to update the game long after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. But, from a recent leak by Rockstar Insider Yan2295 the upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online will apparently “be the consolidation of all the in-game businesses into one”. “It might also be the last update, but we’ve heard that before, so take it as you want. Though the drip-feed of this one is supposed to near [October], so who knows.”
