Halo Infinite Trailer Is An Engine Demo, Game Is Far From Shipping

A couple of days, we had the opportunity to have a frist glimpse of a Halo Infinite trailer, showing the power of the Slipspace engine. As we were excited about the future of the Halo franchise and how it is shaping up powered by a new engine, we now find out that this is not the game itself we were seeing.

In the Halo Infinite Trailer we can see an amazing open world with high-end graphics and vibrant colors. The franchise didn’t have us familiar with such beautiful scenery, so it’s no surprise that we expect more from it. Only a day after the reveal of the Halo Infinite Trailer, 343 Industries’ head Chris Lee clarified that what we saw is not Halo Infinite, but merely a tech demo for Slipspace. He said:

“We still have a long way to go until we ship the game, so things will certainly evolve between now and the release of Halo Infinite, though the engine demo is a clear indication of the direction we are heading with our next game and a great snapshot of where our tech is right now”

We should have expected that outcome. Seeing the Halo Infinite trailer, you can tell that the world shown is not in sync with the model of Master Chief. It’s almost like his colors and outline is much more “present” than the scenery itself.

Even though what we saw is not in-game cinematic or footage, it gives us a sense of how powerful Slipspace is. In reality, it might be one of the most powerful engines microsoft studios use, since it was being worked upon with next generation games in mind.

343 Industries has  been working on Slipspace right after Halo 5’s release, so keeping the game supported while working on such a huge project, along with the new MCC update for Xbox One X must have been tough on the developers.
