Here Are The Resident Evil 2 Remake’s PC System Requirements

Thanks to a surprise E3 showing, we now know that the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake will be launching early next year, January 25, 2019 to be exact. Capcom will be releasing the remake for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam, and if you want to know whether your gaming PC can run it, you can now compare the specs directly thanks to the game’s spiffy new Steam page.

Here are both the minimum and recommended PC specs for the Resident Evil 2 remake:

Minimum Specs

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
  • DirectX: Version 11

Recommended Specs

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-9590 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 with 3GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11

As you can see, the specs themselves are surprisingly lax given how clean and visceral the remake’s graphics looked in its E3 footage. Meeting the 8 GB RAM requirement might prove to be a challenge for more casual PC gamers, but it looks like as long as you have even a semi-current mid-range rig, you should be able to at least run the game at a decent framerate.

Can your PC handle the remastered zombie apocalypse?

The Resident Evil 2 remake’s Steam page also clues viewers in as to what sorts of bonuses they can score by pre-ordering the game and/or springing for its pricier Deluxe Edition. For the Steam PC version at least, pre-ordering gets you an exclusive Resident Evil 2 wallpaper pack and a pair of in-game weapon skins that remodel the default Samurai Edge pistol after the versions used by Resident Evil protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.

Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition includes a series of bonus costumes for Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, a third Samurai Edge weapon skin themed around Albert Wesker’s pistol, and a “soundtrack swap” that allows players to substitute the remaster’s new soundtrack with the musical score of the original Resident Evil 2 game. The Deluxe Edition adds an additional $10 onto the base game’s asking price, bringing its price tag up from $59.99 to $69.99.
