Hitman 2 Players Discover How to Import Season 1 Unlocks (With Caveats)

Hitman 2 players who own the 2016 Hitman season one experience can play remastered versions of the first season’s missions. Sadly, mastery progress and unlocks from season one don’t transfer over to Hitman 2, nor do Elusive Target rewards. However, one player has found a way to enable season one unlocks in Hitman 2…with some noticeable caveats.

Hitman 2 Season One Unlocks

As Redditor HoovySteam explains, there is technically a way to “import” your season one progress into Hitman 2. As long as you’re playing on PC, you simply copy your season one “LocalProfile” folder into Hitman 2’s save location. Then, you have to make it so you’re playing Hitman 2 in offline mode. If you play in the default online mode, the game’s servers automatically load your standard Hitman 2 saves.

Hitman 2 legacy unlocks trick.

Using HoovySteam’s trick enables season one mastery progress and unlocks for Hitman 2’s legacy locations. As you can see in the above image, any unlocked season one Elusive Target suits are also available. Sadly, certain unlocks which weren’t ported over to Hitman 2, such as the Claw Hammer and Masamune, can’t be equipped. Also, since you’re playing in offline mode, all progression elements are disabled.

HoovySteam raises a good point as to why Io Interactive disabled progress transferring in the first place. Clearly Hitman 2 is able to read certain elements from season one saves as the above trick proves. So why, then, did Io make it so that season one players have to re-unlock legacy mastery awards? Why can’t Hitman 2 players who unlocked season one Elusive Target suits use those suits in the sequel?

We likely won’t ever get answers to those questions, but you never know. At the very least, HoovySteam’s trick allows players to admire their season one exploits from within the Hitman 2 client. Of course, it’d be nice if Io just let season one players transfer their progress over. On the other hand, reacquiring mastery ranks does give season one players a good excuse to revisit their old haunts.
